Children's Dentistry

Dr. Carla and Dr. Ali have three young children of their own, so they fully understand what it takes to provide dental care for kids of all ages. They also understand the challenges that parents face when it comes to brushing and flossing kids’ teeth, which is why they partner with you in education to give your little ones a solid foundation for a lifelong healthy smile.

Your Child's Oral Health Begins during Pregnancy

If you are an expectant mother, your diet and oral health can have an impact on your baby. Pregnant women are often more prone to developing gingivitis due to hormonal fluctuations in their changing bodies. Red, puffy gums are a sign that it’s time for a trip to Sheldon Family Dental for a cleaning and exam. Our hygienists and dentists will guide you through ways to keep your gums healthy.

Periodontal disease can also impact your child because it can lead to low birthweight babies. We might recommend more frequent dental cleanings to keep both mom and baby healthy.

Your Little One’s Smile

Oral hygiene is important from birth forward. You can use a soft, damp cloth to clean your infant’s gums after feeding to wipe away bacteria and keep gums healthy. Once those first little teeth appear, a super-soft baby toothbrush without toothpaste will help your child have a healthy smile.

In most cases, kids will need parents’ help brushing until their fingers are dexterous enough to tie their shoes.

Why Baby Teeth Are Important

Baby teeth fall out eventually, but they play an essential role in your child’s oral health development by providing the blueprint for their adult smile. When teeth fall out too soon or have to be extracted due to trauma or decay, it can impact their permanent teeth and even lead to orthodontic complications.

By partnering with Dr. Ali and Dr. Carla, you can count on exceptional professional dentistry for children and guidance on how to do a great job at home.

When Should I Take My Child for Their First Dental Appointment?

We welcome children beginning around the age of two and will make this initial visit to the office as much about fun and learning as it is about the exam. Both Dr. Carla and Dr. Ali want your child to have a positive experience at the dental office and will move at your little one’s pace. We celebrate that every child is different.

At the first visit, we will work with your child and let them hold the toothbrush, count their teeth, and take them for a ride in the chair on a parent’s lap.

Children’s Dentistry for Toddlers to Teens

Bringing your child to your general dentist for their preventive care can make it less stressful for the child and the parents! No racing across town to a pediatric dentist when we look after your entire family’s dentistry right here in our Canton dental office.
